It seems it doesn’t matter if your game fails to live up to the hype. If your name is LucasArts then each title you release is pretty much a license to print money. Despite the naysayers whining about how the game wasn’t everything they hoped for, a strong advertising presence and the fact that IT’S STAR WARS!!!! has sent The Force Unleashed flying to the top of the UK all-format charts. The majority of sales for the title went to the Xbox 360 which accounted for 48%, with the PS3 and Wii trailing behind with 30% and 15% respectively.
Other big winners this week included Nintendo (surprise much?) with Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii which jumped from half way down the chart and took away second and third place. EA also did well for itself, making an appearance three times in the top 10 with Tiger Woods PGA 09, Mercenaries 2 and Spore. However the individual performance of each of those games, which dominated last weeks charts, was less than stellar.
