New Crystal Chronicles heading to the Wii and DS

In the latest issue of Shonen Jump, Square Enix has announced that they will be releasing a brand new RPG called Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time. We’ve heard that name before and everyone thought it might be a new Chrono Trigger game in development. Well it obviously isn’t, but from the looks of it that shouldn’t leave to many people upset. The new FFCC will feature interconnectivity between the Wii and DS just like the original Crystal Chronicles did between the Game Boy Advance and the Gamecube. Except now both will have their own game to play. The whole “play at the same time” feature hasn’t been fully explained but expect it to be cool.

Other features will include use of Mii’s faces in both the Wii and DS versions so that players can design their own characters and also a plot about Charlotta and a mysterious crystal. While the DS and Wii version will share the same name, the article says that they’ll both feature different gameplay in order to emphasize the platform’s control styles. Probably the most exciting news is that players on the Wii and players on the DS will be able to play online with each other so that the roadblock of actually getting four people with a GBA together in a room is bypassed this time around, which will hopefully make the game far more accessible than its predecessor.
