Eidos announced today that a Tomb Raider: Underworld demo will be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace some time this month. In addition, two downloadable chapters containing up to six hours of new gameplay have been announced, both exclusive to Xbox 360.

The first new chapter, titled Beneath the Ashes, will be available for download on Marketplace this Christmas while the second, titled Lara’s Shadow, will be available in early 2009. Beneath the Ashes is set after the Underworld story has finished and features new environments, unlockable secrets and an expanded range of enemies. Lara’s Shadow will introduce players to a new kind of playable character that is said to create a unique Tomb Raider experience.

No pricing has yet been announced for the chapters and its is unknown whether the demo will be available on the PlayStation 3. Expect more on this soon. Tomb Raider: Underworld is set to ship on November 18 in North America (November 21 in Europe) on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, and PC.

I guess this is what we’re in for. PS3 is the main development console for such and such. 360 gets exclusive DLC for such and such…

Money talks. Im sure they would rather take cash up front for DLC rather than taking the risk of low sales.

If they’re working on the extra content now then just put in the game and stop trying to nickel and dime me all the time.

I kinda agree and disagree with you Chicken_Helper. If the boxed game contains everything the devs initially set out to do and the added content is just something that Microsoft asked them to come up with for some extra dough, then I’m down with it. IMO Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all have every right to have devs do exclusive content like that for them. I do agree on stuff like the Mass Effect DLC though, it just felt like the Batarian mission/planet part was cut out of the full game and then later presented to us for an extra price.
