Sony’s PSP continues its growth as the system which got off to a rocky start early on and experienced a resurgence as of late is upping the ante once again — the PSP will be getting the ability to download all upcoming games from the PlayStation Store in the very near future. The service will be available in Japan starting October 15 and will be launched with Destroy All Heroes 2 as the first available downloadable title. No release dates of the service for other regions have been announced.
All titles will still be available for hard copy purchase on UMD, so this doesn’t signal the death of UMD quite yet, but it does take a step towards the digital era.

You’re right, this doesn’t signal the death of the UMD… it died a looong time ago :)

HA! Yeah UMD fared worse than Mini Disk other than the PSP games themselves.

Long time coming… It’s gonna be sad not having the manual or case though.

UMDs were TERRIBLE. I mean the PSP has a lot of games worth playing but UMDs were trash they could fall apart easy and storing them was a B/././././. Goodbye and good riddance I say.

being forced to download games = being forced to buy more memory sticks for your psp
