If you’re like some of us here at TVGB, you have to get your weekly fix of the Emmy and Golden Globe winning Showtime series Dexter. If you didn’t know before, Dexter is based on the provocative novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay which has been followed by Dearly Devoted Dexter and Dexter in the Dark. It is the story of a good guy, a forensic specialist actually, who is also a serial killer with a twisted moral code — he only kills killers. While it is fun to delve into a good story and its roots, it can be even more fun to look to the future and see where the story is going. In this case, that story is headed for PC and iPhone as a new game being developed by Marc Ecko Entertainment.
Marc Ecko will be doing this with the Showtime Network hunched over their shoulders the whole time in order to “guarantee its faithfulness to the spirit of the groundbreaking show.” Previously we thought this was going to be an iPhone exclusive, but Joystiq has confirmed that not only will Dexter be headed to PC as well, but that with enough sales we can expect our favorite serial killer on other platforms as well.
At this point no gameplay elements have been given and only a few screenshots of the iPhone build have been released. We certainly look forward to seeing where Marc Ecko can take the franchise, which would be just “killer” on the Wii. Our main question is this: who will go after what is surely going to be categorized by the media as a “murder simulator” now that Jack Thompson has been disbarred?
