Miyamoto: Excessive violence in games isn’t necessary |

If any other person than Mr. Miyagi of videogames would say that developers don’t need to resort to excessive violence to grab gamers’ attentions, no one would care. But when Shigeru Miyamoto speaks, we bow gracefully and listen. Speaking to Channel 4, Miyamoto said he is “concerned many developers focus on excessive violence in order to stimulate people’s minds.”
Violence in large portions is entertaining, but I guarantee there’s a plethora of developers out there who are scratching their heads and wondering why they can’t come up with a winning concept at the same level as mushroom-eating plumbers and exercise boards for the Wii.

I don’t care for violence in my games, but that’s just me. I’m the minority without a doubt. I was watching the latest episode of bonus round over at gametrailers.com and one of the panelists was speaking about a game and knocking it because it didn’t have enough violence, then when speaking about another, gears 2 I think it was, he gave praise just because of the face that it did have violence in it (more than enough). Like a game nowadays just has to be violent or it’s not up to par… And that’s pathetic to me.

Yeah, It’s really pathetic if it HAS to be brutal to succeed. That guy probably haven’t been gaming for very long.
