Henry Hatsworth looks positively adorable, potentially addictive

He’s simultaneously wieldin’ a sword and downin’ a piping hot cup of Earl Grey? Best British video game character of all time, sorry Lara Croft.

Meet Henry Hatsworth: tea-lover, puzzle-solver, monster-slayer and star of EA’s upcoming original DS title, Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure. Following in the footsteps of Puzzle Quest, this charming British bloke must best an assortment of monsters using a mash-up of play styles, moving seamlessly between platformer and puzzler. And moving seamlessly into my heart.

I am a sucker for these cross-genre games, so needless to say I was thrilled when new screenshots of this casual gaming gem hit the interwebs. On the action side, it’s classic side-scrolling. On the puzzle side, it’s match three tile-sliding. The platform and puzzle elements are separated by the dual screens, and players can choose to toggle between them as long as they have enough puzzle power, collected by making matches and killing monsters. It sounds simple, but deceptively so – even though the game is being designed by EA’s casual games label, the gameplay is surprisingly and satisfyingly deep, spanning five worlds and more than 30 levels.

Oh, and did I mention that when you fill your team time power meter Henry transforms into a giant, unstoppable, indestructible rocket-shooting robot? Are you as scary excited as I am to play this game?
