VC and WiiWare releases for the week of Nov. 24
BY Matthew RazakNov. 24th, 2008 More on:

This week the VC and WiiWare are all about single players, the press release claims. However, it also claims, since a game on a Nintendo console would never ever ever not be fun for a group of people, that these single- player games are fun to gather around and play together. I call BS though, since really only one of the three games this week sounds like any fun to watch or help out with. Both Sudoku Challenge! (Digital Leisure Inc., 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points) for WiiWare, and Boogerman: A Pick and Flick Adventure (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone-Comic Mischief, 800 Wii Points) for the VC aren’t really games that attract a crowd, for varying reasons. Boingz (RealArcade, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points), the second game for WiiWare this week, does seem like it could.

Boingz is a sort of Lemmings/Worms game designed around the Wii. Players stretch different Boingz out so that they can rescue other Boingz and beat each level. As far as WiiWare games go, this one actually looks like some effort and creativity were put into it. I think if it had been released at launch there would have been a lot more excitement around this one as it looks like it could garner at least a cult following.

Do I even have to talk about Sudoku? Not only is sharing a Sudoku puzzle one of the worst things to do in the history of things to do, I’m of the opinion that some things should be kept to pen and paper. Sudoku is one of those things.

Finally, Boogerman. Buried beneath the snot jokes and booger flinging antics of one of the most childish heroes in all of gaming is a relatively strong platformer that is fun to play. The ability to go back to a time where boogers and farts were the top of the comedic food chain is well worth the price of admission alone. This is true even if that time was just yesterday when your brother farted during Guitar Hero and it sounded like it was cued by the song.
