Word has dropped that Mirror’s Edge DLC is on its way for both the 360 and the PS3. While no firm release date has been set the new content will be nine races across seven completely new Time Trail maps. If the above video is any indication these maps won’t be based in any city either, but an abstract world designed specifically for smooth running. There won’t be any guns, cops or city life in the trails. With Time Trail being one of the most popular modes in ME and cops and guns being one of the major complaints from reviewers, this DLC should get people pretty excited. The asking price for these lovely new levels will be $10 or 800 MS points. It also finally pays off to have the PS3 version of a game as owners of the big black box will be able to download an extra map for free.
In other exciting news, all you PC gamers will finally be able to see what all the fuss is about when the game ships for the PC on Jan. 13 in North America and worldwide on Jan. 16. It will be interesting to see if this style of first-person game still controls better on a PC. I’m guessing yes, but you never know.

Those maps look like God ate a Gundam ship and a Mario Bros 3 level and then barfed it out into a an empty chunk of universe. I mean that in the best and most awesome way possible.

Is that one free map the PS3-exclusive DLC we heard about?
And yeah, these levels certainly look funky.

This is everything that is wrong with DLC. Usually I’m on the side of the developer when it comes to stuff like this, but some of these maps really should have been on the disk.

I don’t know how I feel about this. I embraced the idea of Mirror’s Edge being a 21st century platformer, embracing a first person perspective, a female protagonist, a reality based urban setting and incorporating parkour. The concept worked. With this DLC it boils the level design down to exactly what it is, a series of platforms, ledges, slopes etc. Design your own cityscape would have been more interesting.
But then maybe all that is just dressing. The game is about making your way a quickly and smoothly to the end of the level as possible. That central gameplay element is still present in the dlc. In fact it may even be more purely represented here.
I’m torn.

Ignoring the DLC completely (my view on DLC is that it’s been free on pc forever and I dont want to pay for it) the remix sounded pretty good and im not a fan of the original song.
The game (pretty brief and flawed game) had some amazing music in it which I found reminiscent of aphex twin or boards of canada.
So yeah ermmm…music was good right?

I like it. Don’t know if it’s worth another ten bucks, but I’ve said since the beginning that I would play a game that is parkour for the sake of parkour.
