Microsoft verbally vandalizes PlayStation’s Home
BY Lee Bradley Dec. 11th, 2008 More on:

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has thrown a metaphorical brick through the window of Sony Playstation’s shiny new Home. Speaking to little-known niche website Kotaku, Greenberg claimed that Home is outdated. “What Home to me feels like is Second Life for hardcore gamers. It doesn’t feel like it broadens the experience and invites people in… When they unveiled it, it seemed innovative. I think what’s happened is now here we are a couple of years later and we feel beyond that.” He continued, “It feels like 2005 tech in 2008. I’m not sure that’s what people want.” Ouch.

You can see Greenberg’s point. But coming from the company that recently gave us Avatars, it’s a little rich to attack Home for being outdated. Also, if Home does indeed cater for the hardcore, is that really so bad? With Nintendo all but abandoning us and Microsoft increasingly going for the family buck, perhaps it’s good they have us in mind. Either way, you decide on Home’s worth for yourself as the open beta launched today. Go on, off you pop!

Downloaded Home ready…not letting me sign in at the moment, but hoping to see if it’s any good over the weekend. But I agree, Microsoft haven’t done anything better. I just hope Home lives up to expectations.
