Viral marketing hits F.E.A.R. 2, possible contest

We got a strange little tip on the tip line yesterday (yes, the tip line is a red blinking phone and yes, Rain and I do slide down poles hidden behind a bookcase whenever it rings). It said TVGB was about to become corrupted! Oh Noes! Thankfully, before we panicked and put up every virus defense we could think of we read on to discover it was no more than some viral marketing for Monolith’s upcoming F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin.

The note read: Reliable sources have informed me that ThatVideoGameBlog.com and its readers may soon be targeted by a mysterious corporation. Please help me. Armacham has corrupted the FEAR 2 game module but it seems they are determined to unveil LEVEL 3 of their testing whatever the consequences. Despite disastrous results in the initial testing they are currently looking for 13 candidates to test the module in a device called the FEAR LAB in New York City. I fear for the safety of anyone who becomes involved in this test and I’m determined to stop it all costs. I’ve hidden additional evidence at http://www.armacham.com/rf3437, which I’ve had to encode for my safety. Once you unlock the files you will see what I’m talking about.

I’ll be in touch.

Who is this “R” and what does he want? Clicking through to the page reveals some pdf files that seem to require thought and insight to figure out so I’m going to leave that to those who can do that sort of stuff. Could 13 lucky people who figure it out be headed to NY to get their hands on the game?
