Watchmen: The End Is “Ehh”
BY Kristen Spencer Dec. 15th, 2008 More on:

Iconoclast Alan Moore has already expressed disapproval (translation: he’s compared Zack Snyder’s latest slo-mo masterpeice to regurgitated worms) for what seems to be a fairly faithful movie recreation of his seminal graphic novel, Watchmen. So I can only imagine how hella pissed he’s gonna be when he hears about Watchmen: The End Is Nigh, Deadline Games’ videogame prequel to the novel that single-handedly deconstructed the modern concept of superheroes.

If Moore doesn’t think the movie can do the novel justice, he’s certainly not going to be singing the praises of a videogame that does more than just take liberties with the original source material, actually transforming Nite Owl and Rorschach into the archetypal superhero stereotypes that Watchmen sought to tear down.

To tell the truth, I couldn’t be more excited about the Watchmen movie, which looks like it might live up to the hype. But the Watchmen game, brought to us by the makers of Chili Con Carnage, might just be adding insult to injury. At least this isn’t the only classic being bastardized, right Dante?

How could anyone be so bold as to think they’re capable of touching Moore’s universe, let alone adding-on to it? What sucks the most about this is that’s only the beginning of the merchandising and dilution of the hands-down best comics story ever.
