Suda talks No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
BY Kristen Spencer Dec. 23rd, 2008 More on:

Goichi “Suda51″ Suda, creator of the critically-praised but commercially-panned No More Heroes, has opened up to GameSetWatch about the game’s upcoming sequel, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle for the Nintendo Wii.

No More Heroes, while challenging the conventional notions of videogames with its stylized visuals and unique controls, often placed style before substance when it came to fleshing out the sandbox environment of Santa Destroy. The button-mashing battles with beam katana-wielding anti-hero Travis Touchdown were thrilling, but the free-roaming missions were tedious. The world was open but empty, a problem apparently being addressed in the sequel.

“We’ll once again manage to do what we want to do with realizing the open world, but expect big changes for No More Heroes 2’s open world,” said Suda, who hopes to improve and expand upon the unique game world introduced in the first installment. “The world of No More Heroes should have more parallel stories running at the same time. The evolution of Travis — I still have some stuff to write about with him and his growth.”

Can’t wait. If the open world matches the quality of the bosses and combat, this will be a GOTY contender.

I loved this game, even its horrible open world. It all made sense if you looked at it the right way.
