Mega Man vs. Hard Hat

Poor Mega Man. Capcom’s most endearing and enduring mascot just can’t catch a break. Having heroically abandoned his cushy job as a lab assistant, which came with great benefits by the way, to selflessly and tirelessly battle Dr. Wily and his ever-growing army of robots, you’d think he’d be entitled to a moment of peace. You’d also think he’d have no problem annihilating a hard had, but you’d be wrong on both counts.

Mega Man launches every unique utility item and weapon in his accumulated arsenal – more than 100 power-ups pilfered from his many mechanical enemies – but this Hard Hat proves his most challenging and persistent foe to date. It’s sorta long, but Mega Man’s heartbreaking reactions are well worth watching. Seeing the tragicomic range of emotions play over his pixelated pie hole never gets tiresome, but for the attention span-challenged, skip to the 5:50 mark for the big finish.

Most of the sprites were ripped from Mega Man 16 and Mega Man IV for the original Game Boy, but the mini-Rocks from Mega Man 7, Mega Man 8, Mega Man & Bass and Mega Man Powered Up have all been faithfully rendered by the video’s creator, Rofang.
