Japan loves Nintendo in 2008
BY Matthew Razak Dec. 31st, 2008 More on:

Attempting to add a little drama into this post by trying to make you guess which gaming company had nine of the top ten best selling pieces of software in Japan in 2008 would be like asking anyone on the street what 2 plus 2 is; 90 percent of the people would know the answer and those that didn’t are idiots and natural selection is going to take care of them anyway. However, if you are in that 10 percent and haven’t died off yet than we’ll just let you know that it’s Nintendo. Japan buys things on the Wii and DS according to the end of the year numbers.

In fact, in the top 30 games (listed after the jump) a dominant amount were on the Wii and the DS. The only major upset in this trend is the fact that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, the game that is one of the prime reasons the PSP still sells in the land of the rising sun, was the top selling piece of software for the year. Sony has got to be loving that. If you’re looking for any other home console on the list other than the Wii, you’ve got to drop down to number 13 for Sony and number “not gonna happen” for the 360. Oh, and just in case Sony gets a bit to uppity about their number one spot, Nintendo can point out that four of their games weren’t even released in 2008!
