According to Destructoid, GameStop stores will soon give up on acquiring new Xbox games, accessories or systems. In other words, they plan to stop giving you $5 for your copy of Morrowind only to resell it for $25. If you have any games lying around that you want to get rid of, do so quickly. The official change will take effect on Feb. 9.
The Xbox’s slow death has been coming for years, but now that it’s official I am a little saddened by the news. I have a lot of good memories of playing on that system. I mean, how many RPGs best the brilliance, story, and gameplay that Jade Empire so masterfully employed? When did you have more fun playing Halo than when the pistol rocked and Hang ‘Em High was the map of kings? And how freaking cool was Ninja Gaiden? Forgive the effigy, but I liked those ridiculously large controllers and the constant fear of overheating. I’ve never gotten nostalgic from a news piece about GameStop before, but there is a first time for everything. Farewell, Xbox. We shall miss thee.
