BioShock has potential for five sequels
BY Kristen Spencer Jan. 7th, 2009 More on:

BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams is still but a twinkle in developer Take-Two’s eye, but that hasn’t stopped the talk of more sequels. Lots more sequels.

While promising not to “cash in” on the franchise, Global President of 2K Christoph Hartmann suggests that with the right story, BioShock could become the next Star Wars, generating numerous sequels, the current bread and butter of the gaming industry.

“For BioShock, because it’s so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix? The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: ‘Who [making this] is on crack and who isn’t?’,” said Hartmann in an interview with MCV. “But, then again, look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like BioShock. If we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did.”

Personally, I only made it a couple of minutes into the first (new) Star Wars before thinking “Who making this is on crack?” But other than that small metaphorical speed bump, I think I get where’s he’s going with the comparison. If they can crank out five more BioShock games as good, if not better, than the first, I’m prepared to start waiting in line right now. Anyone got an air matress, a toaster oven and a 5-year supply of HOT POCKETS® I can borrow?

Uhhh mentioning Star Wars and not cashing in in the same breathe is completely oxymoronic.

5 sequels should not be a problem right.

Over a 20 year period right?

I mean, dont just rush one out every 2 years with no inovation.

the first was good and all but I didnt exactly push any boundaries.

Still I look forward to the future of this series.
