Faking the Band - What the hell’s a pompatus? [Jan. 20]
BY Jason R. Wallace Jan. 20th, 2009 More on:

Faking the Band is a weekly feature detailing the latest in DLC for Rock Band 2 and GH World Tour.

Don’t worry. No one really knows what it means. Nonsense neologisms aside, gamers can now enjoy a batch of quality classic rock with the Steve Miller Band Pack. Several of those tunes we know all too well are here: a bit of grinning and sinning with Maurice in “The Joker,” a new set of words from the “Space Cowboy” and a great idea to “Take the Money and Run.” These songs are vintage Miller: smooth, simple, catchy numbers designed to live forever in your brain and perfect for luring fathers and uncles into unexpected rocking.

Peeking out over Steve’s shoulders are a few faces new to Rock Band 2. We’ve got scowls and growls from Godsmack and Rob Zombie, spaced-out staring from Belly and a look of utter disinterest from the boys of Mute Math. Behind them, floating round and round, are the Ghost Hounds, old friends from last year’s 20 free tracks.

Meanwhile, World Tour shows its humanitarian side and takes in a few refugees, specifically the bands of the Australian Rock Track Pack. Silverchair’s “Tomorrow,” Wolfmother’s “Dimension” and the Vines’ “Outtathaway!” will be off the boat on Thursday, January 22, ready to strum and drum their way to the American Dream.
