Capcom’s Dark Void shaping up to be sleeper hit

While Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV dominate the media spotlight, one of Capcom’s other ’09 offerings, Dark Void, is shaping up to be the sleeper hit of the year, with its dark blend of pulp comics sensibility and science fiction setting.

Yesterday Capcom released four videos featuring some high-altitude aerobics, not nearly enough to satisfy but just enough to wet the appetites of those less familiar with the Rocketeer-meets-Steampunk title. The videos are pretty self explanatory – zoom around in your jetpack blasting enemies, sabotaging fortresses, hijacking spaceships and grinning like an absolute idiot – but for those who prefer commentary, the first clip (shown above) showcases a battle against “Archon,” a mechanical monster equipped with a massive laser cannon.

Hit the jump for the rest of the action.

The second clip shows our hero engaging in a little ground-based combat before sabotaging the enemy’s floating fortress.

The third clip demonstrates the game’s spaceship-hijacking mechanic in action during a dogfight.

The fourth and final clip demonstrates the Gears of War-esque vertical cover system, which allows you to fire at enemies overhead from beneath strategically placed platforms.
