VC and WiiWare releases for the week of Jan. 2

All right I’m a little late with this week’s VC and WiiWare releases, but after a break from writing about games I was only half excited for last week because the site was down, you can’t blame again for being a bit slow on getting back in the saddle. Unfortunately it’s another week of games that doesn’t truly get me buying, but only intrigues me a little. Neither Snowboard Riot (Hudson Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Fantasy Violence, 1,000 Wii Points) and LONPOS (Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points) for WiiWare or Sonic Chaos (SEGA MASTER SYSTEM, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points) on the VC get me very excited.

Snowboard Riot has the best chance of being interesting as it basically looks like Road Rash on snowboards. Add in balance board support (something we already know works well with snowboarding) and we’ve got a game that could be a big winner, but isn’t attractive enough to risk $10 on. LONPOS could also be a decent puzzle game, despite the fact that its main goal is to be a puzzle game for everyone. Don’t judge too quickly, I believe Tetris falls squarely in that category.

Sonic Chaos came out for the master system a while back and is actually a decent installment in the series. I wouldn’t put it in my top fiver or anything, but if you’re a Sonic fan, checking it out wouldn’t do no harm.
