Rockstar announced today that it will release Red Dead Redemption, the long-rumored sequel to Red Dead Revolver, this fall for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Developed using Rockstar’s proprietary RAGE engine, the sequel to 2004’s wild west shoot ‘em up will be going the sandbox route this time ’round, set during the turn of the 20th century when the “lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age.” Slipping on the Stetson of former outlaw John Marston, players will experience an open world adventure spanning a lawless and seemingly boundless American frontier.
“The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plot lines in a massive, vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing,” said Rockstar’s founder, Sam Houser. “We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be.” Yippee kay yay! And first screens after the break.

Where are all the westerns, anyway? We’re lucky if we get one high profile western every few years..

Another western game! My prayers have been answered.
The original was a work of Genius. The theme of the film sounds very much inspired by Once Upon A Time In The West, which happens to be one of my all time favourite films.
Oh Golly! I can’t wait for autumn!

Yeah, I know, tell me about it! :| It’s one of the most iconic genre’s of all time and yet its potential is virtually untapped (pun intended) by the gaming industry.

I didn’t play Red Dead Revolver, but I played Gun. Definitely liked the change of setting time period. It was definitely something refreshing. So we’ll finally get a proper “NowGen” western title. I just hope the shooting system is something different from GTAIV. Slow and clunky? No thanks!
