EA has officially announced and shed some light on the Dead Space game that we found out was heading to the Wii through a conference call a few weeks ago. Named Dead Space Extraction, the game is a prequel to the original and follows the events that lead up to Isaac Clarke’s doings on the Ishimura by telling the story of space colonists trying to escape an infection on the Aegis VII mining colony.
EA Redwood Shores promises the full waggle treatment that, instead of a third-person view, can be enjoyed through a more intimate first-person perspective. Extraction will also bring new weaponry, enemies, puzzles, and even throws cooperative play into the mix.
Dead Space Extraction is currently scheduled for autumn 2009. For now, check out the in-game trailer above.

I know everything is cut up quick but that is looking darn nice. I hope they keep the strategic dismemberment stuff in.

I guess if it can look good on the original XBOX then there’s no reason why it couldn’t run on the Wii.
This game will live and die by its control scheme though. Let’s hope they work on them a while… should be easy given that they already have a plot, 3D models, and other such things worked out.
Should be…

Maybe we’re seeing the beginning of developers actually putting some effort into Wii games, finally. It definitely has the potential to look much better than what we’ve seen so far, I think.

Puzzles in an on-rails shooter?
How is an on-rails shooter supposed to be scary?
I was hoping for 3rd person, very dissapointing.

How can you make a on-rail scary?
Creepy atmosphere, give you control of the camera and possibly movement of the character (think Killer 7). Throw in some bad lighting and a flash light and rawr!
Puzzles in an on-rail shooter?
Easy! Get to a computer terminal and flip your Wiimote around in some crazy fashion to unlock a door or access an area. Maybe at a computer terminal you will have to life and poke the Wiimote. Easy and done.

Should we be bummed that it’s another on-rails gun game, or stoked that it’s a carefully tailored game for the Wii rather than a poor port?
The fact that there will be puzzles sounds promising, and I hope that there will be different paths through the game like Star Fox 64 so that it’s replayable.

Well, find out quickly… this is the internet. We have no patience so we make assumptions, no matter how much truthiness they have.
