King Diamond confirmed for Guitar Hero Metallica

Q: How heavy metal is King Diamond?
A: He uses a human femur and tibia bound in the shape of an inverted cross as a mic handle.

This makes him more than qualified to share the virtual stage with Lars, James, Kirk and Robert in Guitar Hero: Metallica, coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 29. The falsetto-voiced front man for Mercyful Fate and the eponymous King Diamond joins Motörhead vocalist and bassist Lemmy in lending his likeness to the game, which will allow players to sing, shred or wail to Mercyful Fate’s “Evil.” The song, part of Metallica’s “Mercyful Fate” medley, has been re-recorded especially for the game in the black metal band’s native Demark by four of the five original members.

We’re reserving judgment until Guitar Hero: Metallica is actually released, but this newest addition to the franchise seems poised to satisfy every flavor of metal fan, with an impressive variety of glam, thrash, and black metal mixed throughout its 49-song tracklist. Clearly there are going to be some members of the heavy metal pantheon left out in the cold, but you gotta give Metallica credit for including more of their influences, inspirations and contemporaries than Aerosmith. So metal fans, are you thinking “horns up” or “horns down” for a release day purchase?
