Microsoft responds to bannings over sexual orientation
BY Jeremy Hill Feb. 26th, 2009 More on:

Yesterday we reported on a lesbian gamer who had her Xbox Live account suspended because users found it offensive that she would openly express her sexual preference. Upset over this seemingly discriminatory act some Xbox Live members (including one of our own) decided to test whether stating their own heterosexual preferences would produce the same results.

Stephen Toulouse who is the head of Policy and Enforcement for Xbox Live stated on his Twitter that while he cannot comment on yesterdays situation, he is working on a way for users to “safely express relationship preference.” He also added that expression of sexual orientation of any kind is not allowed in Gamertags.

Testing the Xbox Live police with a statement claiming how incredibly straight you are could get your account suspended for a day or worse. While this problem is being worked out, we can guarantee all the bigotry and homophobia our ears can stand on Xbox Live remains intact.
