Street Fighter becomes a patron of the arts
BY Kristen Spencer Mar. 5th, 2009 More on:

Despite a decade-long break from the spotlight, Street Fighter remains a pop-cultural zeitgeist. This legendary series has captured the hearts of gamers and fueled the imaginations of artists, as in this latest exhibition featuring drawings, paintings and interactive installations inspired by the iconic brawler.

Backed by Capcom, Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA is staging Jab Strong Fierce: A Street Fighter Tribute Art Exhibition, which will feature dozens of artists, exhibiting their Street Fighter-flavored wares both as individuals and as part of videogame art collectives I am 8-bit, EVO and Udon Entertainment.

In addition to the artwork, the event will also include a cosplay competition, raffle giveaways and a Street Fighter IV tournament for cash purses up to $500. If you’re in the area, you should definitely stop in just to experience serious art collectors breathing the same rarefied air as a middle-aged man in Chun Li dress.
