Update: After some debate as to whether Hollenshead said “No, we’ll be out this year” or “No, won’t be out this year,” Geoff Keighly, who talked to Hollenshead on GameTrailers TV about Rage, has confirmed on his Twitter that Hollenshead said Rage would not be released this year. Bummer.
Original story: Not much is known about id Software’s upcoming title Rage, however in the latest episode of GameTrailers TV, id CEO Todd Hollenshead responded to the question surrounding the possible release of Rage and it seems he’s confident enough to confirm that it is coming out in 2009.
While discussing the gameplay of Rage, Hollenshead also clarified that it wasn’t necessarily a racing game or anything like Fallout but instead will provide vast environments with instances dropping players into scenarios that will include tightened gameplay. Rage will be published by EA and is expected to be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Mac.

Sounds like marketing speak for “They’re separate levels with clear boundaries like most shooters, but they will feel really big and sprawling like Fallout 3! We swear!”

Kind of sounds like he says “Nah, won’t be out this year.”

Well that sucks. Despite not knowing much about the game, I was rather looking forward to it.

cool rage seems awsome. atleast its concept art is. i would like a game full with mismaked morons such as we have seen in the movie as hills have eyes and an actual game which could let me experience such an event would be even cooler. i would like to kill these raping morons just kill there heads in the most horrible way possible with a nice melee weapon would be awsome.
i also hope they port dead island to the pc anytime soon i miss it that most good titels are console exclusive these days it kinda pisses me off. and makes me want to flame the one who made the decision to do so because he looses money because of its exclusiveness less copies will be sold :)
