Black Rock Studio, of PURE fame, today gave us more information on its upcoming PC/PS3/360 racer scheduled for release in early 2010. Set in a built for television city, Split/Second pits players against competitors to become the season champion in a high-stakes reality show. In a cross between Death Race and Burnout, racers attempt to take out opponents by bumping, pushing, and laying waste to the track in an effort to cross the finish line first. Although, unlike the aforementioned movie, the vehicles will not be outfitted with the weapons.
Players in the Split/Second world will have to use strategy and timing to eliminate other racers, triggering explosions to alter the track or to make completely new routes–something that senior vice president of global marketing at Disney Interactive Studios, Craig Relyea, says “elevates action racing to a new level”–as seen in the debut trailer above and two screens below.
