PS3 and Blu-ray are BFF, for reals
BY Matthew Razak Mar. 12th, 2009 More on:

There have been internet rumblings that in order for the PS3 to get a price cut Sony would be abandoning the Blu-ray player in it. Sounds a bit too ludicrous to be true, and if it sounds like a duck and looks like a duck, then it’s a duck. Sony has come out and confirmed that Blu-ray and the PS3 will never part ways, no matter what, not in a million-kajillion years. Even if PS3’s father says they can’t go out anymore cause Blu-ray is nothing but a trouble maker.

The rumor started when analyst (and once you see that word credibility has flown out the window) Mike Hickey said he believed that a PS3 without Blu-ray was coming. A thought that is pretty laughable if you think about it even a little bit since Blu-ray is one of the major reasons that the PS3 sells and its games are, you know, built for it. Seems Sony finds the suggestion just as dumb as we do. “That would pretty much destroy the PS3’s backbone,” Sony marketing manager Kim Nguyen told SAI, “Our games were built on Blu-ray. Quote that: Blu-ray will always be part of PS3.” Quoted, Kim.

Yeah, doesn’t make any sense to pull it at all. They’d have to have games sold on DVD and BD at the same time… Talk about a mess. If you ever believed this you are a fool. The only way I can see this happening is at the end of it’s 10 year cycle when we’ve shifted almost entirely to downloadable games.
