Oh memories, what a cruel mistress you are, filling our heads with visions of the glory days of PC gaming, when point-and-click games were cutting edge and the world opened up when we typed “look.” The first game in the Leisure Suit Larry series set the bar for comedic games which can never be reached again, no matter what any developer does, because memories are always sweeter than reality. Of course, that does not seem to stop game makers from trying; enter Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust.
The latest installment of the Leisure Suit Larry games finds players as Larry Loveage working on his uncle Larry’s film studio and trying to make it big in Tinseltown. Soon it becomes clear that another studio has launched a plot to ruin uncle Larry’s reputation and it is up to the younger Larry to save the day… and the ladies.
The game will try to bring back the series’ sense of humor by taking players through some of Hollywood’s most famous movie sets. Whether dodging security on the “Bytanic” or trying to quit someone on “Beefcake Mountain,” players will explore the in-game world with traditional platforming sections, racing, and puzzle solving.
With the voices of Jay Mohr, Carmen Electra, and Shannon Elizabeth, Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust hits the Xbox 360 and PC on March 27 with the PS3 version coming soon. We just hope it doesn’t turn out to be another steaming pile of crushed memories, no matter who the voice talent is.
