After dissecting a report on the latest NPD data for the month of February, Gamespot asked Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo for their opinions on the latest trends that were uncovered. The most interesting thing is near the end of the article where a Microsoft representative speculates that the Xbox 360 release of the much-anticipated Final Fantasy XIII will sell better than the PlayStation 3 version. The rep cites the success of Street Fighter IV, Madden, and Grand Theft Auto IV as examples of this trend.
While it is true that SFIV has sold marginally better (about 3%) on the 360, there really shouldn’t be any gloating just yet. I wouldn’t discount the PlayStation 3’s ability to sell consoles based on Final Fantasy XIII alone, but I guess we really won’t know until the game and its sales numbers finally come out.
