Need for Speed SHIFT at the starting line this September

EA has announced that Need for Speed SHIFT will be racing onto store shelves in the Europe on Sept. 17 and North America on Sept. 22 for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and PSP, and along with that little announcement released the first footage from the game in the form of the debut teaser above (HD version available on Xbox LIVE).

Hardcore racing fans should be satisfied with the shift since Undercover left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. SHIFT will feature some of the most iconic tracks in racing like Brand’s Hatch in the UK and the largest car roster in NFS history including the Pagani Zonda, Porsche 911 GT2 and Lotus Elise.

Senior Vice President of EA Games Europe, Patrick Soderlund, said, “By focusing on the driver’s experience though the first-person view, we are able to capture the high-speed intensity and gripping emotions of racing.”

That focus has enabled game developer Slightly Mad to put together an accurate physics engine so racers will be able to feel every impact, change in track surface and last bit of grip before their car flies off road and down a mountainside (shock vests not recommended). Some of the crew from Slightly Mad were developers and designers of GT Legends and GTR 2, so hopefully the new blood will speed the series to the head of the genre.

Team producer, Jesse Abney confirms that previously released images are not renders. “All images are taken straight from the game without alteration.” So, get those HD wide-screens ready for a beautiful immersing racing experience, or at the least some great game intro movies.
