After two weeks of intrigue and interest I have to say that this week’s VC and WiiWare releases are not arousing much excitement for me. It’s just that a puzzle game, Pop’Em Drop’Em SAMEGAME (Hudson Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points), another Bomberman, and Bomberman ’94 (TurboGrafx16, 1-5 players, Rated E for Everyone—Comic Mischief, 700 Wii Points) aren’t exactly the type of games to… wait, what’s this? DETANA TWIN BEE (TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Cartoon Violence, 700 Wii Points)!
One of the coolest and original vertical shooters headed for the Wii, and now the easiest way to play the game in the US. DETANA is one of those shooters that eschewed the classic sci-fi lable of the genre and went all cutsey and creative. I’ve heard good things about this game from the lands of Japan and, despite it being another shooter for the VC, it’s a bit exciting.
Bomberman ’94 plays like all the other 2D Bombermans, but I do remember this one standing out a bit more. I guess if you don’t have Bomberman Ultra than there is some point to picking it up. SAMEGAME on the other hand doesn’t seem to have many redeeming values. It looks like a simple puzzle game that would normally be reserved for free flash gaming except that there is multiplayer on it. I don’t even see the Wii controls adding much tot he color matching gameplay.
