Modern Warfare 2 made official with a trailer, dated, drops “Call of Duty”?
BY Jeremy Hill Mar. 25th, 2009 More on:

The day may be just about over in most of the United States but the party just started in San Francisco. During the GDC 2009 awards show Infinity Ward closed out the event by showing the first trailer from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. And that thing above there, that’s it. So get watching.

After you’re done, join us in speculation why there’s a distinct lack of “Call of Duty” in the trailer which it looks like has been dropped from the name.

Oh, and our guy on the scene at GDC just texted that the street date for the game will be November 10, as the trailer also confirms. But seriously, no “Call of Duty” anymore?

And yeah, where is “Call of Duty”? First they drop the “5″ from World at War and now this?

I’ll take a ‘deep’ trailer like this that reveals teaser like hints over most teaser trailers anyday. That and I would buy MW2 even if the trailer was just static for 50 seconds.

I thought this teaser was one of the best I’ve seen! Extremely creative and pulled of really well!

As a teaser trailer it’s fine, good even. But as the payoff to Keighley’s hyping it’s dissapointing.

Also, does that mean that Treyarch are permanently stuck in World War land? With IW taking the Modern Warfare Banner and running with it, it seems like the two dev teams now have more specific remits. If Treyarch were to move into a modern day setting, it would muddy the waters a little.

Know what I think? It’s all over for Call of Duty, the title. Maybe one more from Treyarch, but then that’s it.

I believe changing the name of a long running game series to make it look more original is false advertising.
