Have you heard of this little known Japanese game called Mother 3? Evidently there is this whole movement to get the thing ported over to the US. Who knows why since no one has ever heard of the thing, much less the games that came before it. Well now the mystery game with only one or two fans out there has an extra one: Reggie Fils-Aime.
The Nintendo exec had some very friendly things to say about the game, though that doesn’t mean it’ll be crossing the Pacific any time soon. “I’m a big Mother fan. Huge Mother fan. I would love to see Mother localized in our market,” he said, “In fact, I’ve talked to [Nintendo president] Mr. Iwata about it because this is a game he has some history with. [pauses] But it is not on our announcement schedule. [laughs]”
How much do you bet the guys over at MTV Multiplayer wanted to punch him in the face after that little joke? Yes, I was being sarcastic before and I want to see Mother 3 on these shores just as much as the rest of the cool kids do, but just because Reggie likes a game doesn’t mean it’s going to come out. “…just because I’m the president of NOA doesn’t mean that every game that I love gets published in our territory. We run a business. And so, in order for a title to be published, the development, localization, launch, volume, all needs to make economic sense,” Reggie admitted, at which point the Multiplayer guys started beating him about the head mercilessly.
