Uncharted 2 engine better, faster, stronger than original

Like we’ve already seen, the sequel to 2007’s gorgeously cinematic adventure, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, will be even more visually impressive than the original. According to Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells, the developer’s programmers were unleashed on the original game’s engine as well as the PS3 hardware soon after the release of Drake’s Fortune.

With the freedom to check out any part of the system that they desired, the programmers were able to squeeze even more graphic greatness out of the PS3 in order to make Uncharted 2: Among Thieves one of the best looking games ever. Naughty Dog is calling for more polygons detailing more character models, of which more will be able to populate your tube at the same time.

That sounds nice and all, but the Dog’s true ace in the hole is apparently the snow effects they’ve been working on. This includes realistic ice effects as well as something called “simulated sub-surface scattering” that I’m sure will blow all of our minds when the game is released this autumn.
