A spokesperson for Ubisoft has said that E3, GamesCon, and the Tokyo Games Show will be the focus of their attention this year rather than running what would have been the third Ubidays event. Ubidays started as a way to help ease the pain of the faltering E3 in Europe but a recently proposed rejuvenation of the older conventions such as E3 and GamesCon will make the event unnecessary. Certainly these types of marketing shows have changed in form and function since the 80’s and through these difficult financial times there seems to be a bit of an identity crisis. Nevertheless, I’m always sad to see another event get cancelled as these conventions act as great hubs for gaming as a culture. With Assassin’s Creed 2 and Beyond Good & Evil 2 announced it’s surprising to hear that the company won’t host the event but we can still look forward to the other shows for information on these two highly anticipated titles.
