Some slick-looking screens from the upcoming Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3-bound End of Eternity have already been leaked onto the interwebs, but they can’t compare with the recently released cinematic trailer featuring all the floating cities, flying bullets and androgynous male leads you’d want…no, dare we say need in your futuristic Japanese role-playing game.

Published by SEGA and developed by tri-Ace, who for the first time parts ways with Square Enix, End of Eternity seems to favor guns over swords. The story takes place in the futuristic floating city of Burzel, high above the now toxic earth, where citizens are subject to a militaristic religious order. Players will follow a trio of characters — Zephyr, Subject 20, and Vashyron who is “employed in a private military firm” — who must face life beyond the city’s walls. Could this be SEGA’s big breakthrough into the golden land of milk and honey that the Final Fantasy franchise has built?
