CoD4 cheater killing patch incoming
BY Rain Anderson Apr. 28th, 2009 More on:

During his trip through Europe, Infinity Ward’s Community Relations Manager Robert Bowling has found the time to tweet that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on the Xbox 360 will be getting a patch soon that will be a headache for players who like to get their kicks by cheating. Bowling says the patch is going through certification now and that the “cheaters days are numbered.”

    1. Team Killer

Will I still be able to Team Kill though? That is very important to me. Not just spawn team killing. No. There is no honor or talent in that, anyone can do that and get booted after the 3rd kill. No, I am talking about the very fine art of “perfect-timing-team-killing”.

This new style of play consists of:

      1) Shooting a teammate enough to drop him, but not kill him, which lets the other team actually do the killing for you. And you don’t get the negative points. You do this just as they enter a firefight. This leaves them in Last Stand wondering what the heck just happened. And very, very vulnerable to other team, which they just now engaged and are likely going to finish the job.

      2) Toss perfectly timed Tabun Gas/Flares at teammates to blind them, further letting the other team actually do the killing, so you aren’t penalized. This is best done to snipers and campers on your team. As they setup shop in their “special” place. You drift by and give them a gift, then fire rounds all around them, but not hitting them. This gets them even further in panic/run mode, and alerts the other team to their location.

      3) Shoot around another player, or knife in the air around them, until such time that they kill you and then you call them out as the “team killer”, which makes others on your team kill that player.

      4) Kill teammates just as they are doing something important, like planting/defusing the bomb, or just as they get that 5th or 7th kill. Sadly, you only get to do this one three times and then you are off to the next lobby for more fun.

These things need to remain in the game, as they are truly something to savor once perfected.

Sorry. I entered the above items in random order. I’ll take the time to put the steps in the proper order now:

#2, #3, #1 and finally, after wearing out your welcome and when others get wise to your tactics, you pull #4 out.

Some notes after hours and hours of Team Killing:

      a) Female players and Teenagers seem to get the most upset over this.
      b) Mature adult players generally seem to shrug off the team killing.
      c) On rare occasions, you can make your entire team so suspicious of each other, that they end up doing all the team killing against each other (and you!).

Remember, the developers allow Team Killing and therefore it is a valid method of gameplay. All they have to do is set Friendly Fire to OFF, and the game is pure again.

Call of Duty World at War in Hardcore Search & Destroy is the ultimate game mode for this too! And the Playstation Network is CLASSIC for this, as you can create as many FREE accounts as you need. This is virtually impossible on XBOX Live, since it will cost you another $50 for a team killing account. And Microsoft will brick your console if they catch you doing this consistently.

      Thanks Sony!

      Forgot another classic move!

While the opportunity is certainly rare, if you can catch all your teammates in group (say, guarding an objective), you can toss smoke on them and then fire all around them without hitting them.

Often times, they’ll panic and just attack anything that moves. A natural reaction, for sure. But in this case, they will end up shooting each other.

Again, this is rare that you will get the opportunity, much less be able to pull it off. To be honest, there should be an Achievement or Trophy for this one.

      Yet another!

Never forget to do the following when Team Killing:

      1) Shoot all your teammates Bouncing Betties that you come across.
      2) Shoot any of your teams dogs that get awarded.

With #1 above, try to do it with the team member who planted them present. You don’t want to blow up them or you. Just let them see that you are purposely undermining their efforts. As such, they may decide to kill you. At which point you call them out as a team killer to everyone.

Thank you Team Killer. You are like the bouncer who has pity on the nerd and lets him in to the club, even though in reality he is only headed for heartbreak. I had often wondered why I would mysteriously die right before achieving helo/dogs. The thrill of camping and picking off the opposing team from afar was offset by the mysterious and sudden appearance of smoke and the sound of bullets whizzing by. At first I thought the smoke was great, “additional cover” I thought. Once panic set in and my fire became more indiscriminate, my team mates soon learned that “friendly fire” isn’t very friendly at all.

Thank you Team Killer. Without people like you, there would be no way to control people like me.

      Thank you.

      Sheesh! Yet another one.

Pay careful attention to the bottom left of your screen. You want to see when your teammates get on a killing streak. You’ll want to see who the just ordered up the recon plane, so you know they’re on a 3 kill streak. So? So, go shoot them! That ends that streak, eh?!?!

You mean as opposed to people like you, who run around with all the weapons, perks and advantages, who shoot lesser skilled people all day long and call themselves champions? People like me work for a living and cannot sit around all day playing COD4/5. Even n00bs like yourself will eventually level up given time. So while you’re sitting around all day at home, playing a game that you should even own (18+ only, remember!) when you have homework to do, I and others like me are working hard all day to make this a great country.

My whole point is that friendly fire should be OFF. Regardless of match mode.

      @ Igotit

Your welcome. My pleasure. It was the very least I could do.

Honestly, I have not done the above things that I mentioned. But I have pieced together all the things that I have witnessed (usually as the victim) to make a point:

TURN FRIENDLY FIRE OFF, DAMMIT!!!!! (Are you listening Treyarch and Infinity Ward?)

Also, we really need to have the game kick anyone under the age of 18. They have no right, ethically or morally, to own or play this game. ESRB my friends. Get rid of all the teenagers and online gaming would be a great place. Full of mature adults playing together in righteous good fun.

PS: What do you folks think about, at the very least, team killers getting kicked for an entire day. Not just the match, but for an entire day. Plus loss of 5 ranks. Now we’re talking!

Sometimes it really is an accident but, maybe after they are booted from 3 games in a 24 hour period?

So, what I’m getting here is that Teamkiller sucks at the game, and can’t get any kills unless its his team… The reason friendly fire is left on, is to make people work to kill the enemy, and suffer for being, well, terrible. Learn to aim, and control your shots.

Call of Duty has ample game modes with freindly fire turned off,so turning it off on hardcore mode as well would just be idiotic ! If you want to play without FF then go play that mode and stop bitching.
FF has its place and its purpose and should be included in any game mode that deems to call itself hardcore. It is a very nessecary element to adding realism to a game.
As for deliberate teamkillers, they are a breed to be pitied not hated. If they are so insignificant and powerless in the real world that they have to get their kicks by aggravating people online who will never see, never know, nor ever care who or what they are then that is a sad life indeed. A ban for about an hour after 4-5 teamkills in one game would be welcome though because I don“t see any need for me to suffer through their deppressive tantrums with them. Why ? Because I DON`T CARE lol

Lets states first that M rated games are 17+ and that you put should instead of shouldn’t.
Oh, and its not that hard to get good at any call of duty…its an FPS it should be second nature for anyone with a console.
Oh and on the note that you are a victim…cry me a river, get better its not tht difficult to do it. At most an hour a day should have you decent in about 2 months and if not you would just be terrible at the game.
BTW they will NEVER get rid of the teenagers on the game…thts where most of there revenue come from you dunce.

P.S. You will eventually learn how to avoid team killers, even the ones who RPG at the beginning of the match…thts one death tht really doesn’t make a big deal…just get over IT and get over YOURSELF

I was playing cod4 the other night, and a player had some cheat that u could not kill him. I ran around and stab him 5-6 times in a row, but he would not die. My screen was showing that he was registering damage, but he would not die! Has anyone come across this? It just seems that cheating takes all of the fun from playing the game. Whats the point of playing if u cant die? Just seems boring to me.

@UIG360 No It was on 360. That is why I’m so confused. I would say he was lagging, but he seemed to be moving fine. I don’t know what was going on. Dude ended the game @ 45-0 and then started talking smack about how he has been cheating 4-ever and xbox live does not kick him off. I filed like 20 complaints, but I dont think they did anything. Who knows.

You cannot stop us (cheaters). It is time gaming went back to the days of single-player only. And the way to get there is to ruin the multiplayer online experience for everyone, such that there is a mass migration back to single-player.

BioShock is 10x the game that either COD is.

Perhaps, and I know that I am dreaming here but follow me anyway, one day you and I can meet in a 12 player S&D lobby. Both of us on opposing teams.

The match begins and we Team Kill our respective teams, using those devious and subtle methods that I documented in an earlier series of comments. Imagine the joy! The fun! Damn, there should really be a Trophy for this sort of thing.

You and I, standing there, amongst the dead bodies of the annoying teammates. We don’t shoot each other. No. We just stand there talking while we let the clock run out.

      Priceless.

But out of the ashes of defeat, Team Killer was created to seek vengeance on those that would ruin the game for him.

ok. Team Killer. You are RAD. No better way to put it.

By the way, bgbush, I think I fought/lost/got raped by the same guys you did. I counted at least 4 of them. Just like that. I was on crossfire, and they were getting streaks of 40 plus! I

vividly remember hitting one of them with a rocket in the face, then hitting them with the grenade, THEN hit them with my M16 with stopping power like 4 time in the head/chest, and he just laughed, and stood in front of me! He then proceded to knife and teabag me.

I respawned, and ran after him. I found 3 of them and they ran! You what they did? They ran to my other body, and knowing I would chase them… All started teabagging my lifeless body right before my very eyes…

True story. Haven’t played anything but Grid since then (Grid is awesome!)

Yes we get it, saying “Bop, bop, bop” over and over might be appealing to you, but it aint to the rest of us!!
Also COD/MW2 should have its own REP system whereby players can lose rank and thus weapon/perk privelges if they Team Kill/Are Kids…cant be hard to program in…although I know nah-huh-thing about programming…but please, for sanity’s sake!
