Red Steel 2 this holiday, to “revolutionize” the genre
BY Rain Anderson Apr. 29th, 2009 More on:

Ubisoft has just sent over an official Red Steel 2 announcement, saying the sequel to the Wii launch title will be arriving this holiday season sporting an artistic style and boldly promising to revolutionize the action-fighting genre by fully utilizing the Wii MotionPlus; “Your movements are faithfully replicated on-screen, putting the emphasis on swinging, shooting and fun! With the ability of the Wii MotionPlus to sense the strength of a swing, you will literally be able to make an impact on your adversaries through power and precision.”

Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing US at Ubisoft says Red Steel 2 is the first title with full MotionPlus integration and Ubisoft is pimping the game as “built from the ground up to take advantage of the Wii MotionPlus.”

The game takes place in a desert high-tech metropolis, reflected in this first image that was sent out with the announcement.

This has to be a whole lot better than the first one for it to matter. Am I the only one who really didn’t like the first one?

I dug the first one even though it was kind of floppy. The setting for the sequel sounds really awesome like a futuristic samurai western. Can’t wait to see more.

I’m with Petti on this one - the first game showed off limitations rather than exceeding expectations. It sucked. Ever so hard. This sequel has to be better by sheer virtue of not being the first.

Yes, I’m with Dennis on this, as much as the first one had major gameplay flaws and the story and cinematics were unbearable, it was still a decent game, worth playing through. I hope they fixed their mistakes this time around!

sorry, i read somewhere that this title wont support multiplayer so i was a little disappointed when i read that little snippet. hopefully, the campaign mode will be a dramastic overhauled when is compared to the first one. the first sucks, but its not horrible.

No thanks Ubisoft. I don’t plan on buying another rushed sloppily made game based on possibly the worst First Person Shooter Ive had the displeasure of being tricked into playing. IF this game manages to be anything other than an embarrassment I will be shocked.

The first one was hilariously bad to me, in a good way. Multiplayer was fun for crazy antics, and single player was fun to run through (until they expected you to see people sniping you from a distance… kinda hard to see on regular TVs). Only reason I was upset was they were not honest about the sword fighting, and everything was pretty wonky.

If they can make this one all about slicing and killing and hold everything else, I’m in. But don’t try to push an intricate story or controls. No More Heroes was awesome cause they understood the gamer… let’s see Red Steel 2 do the same.

I have high hopes for the game. I think ubi learned their lesson the first time and now they’ve got a chance to do some great stuff here. Pretty excited for it.

Red Steel wasn’t just the first FPS on Wii, but one of the first games on Wii, period. Back then, no one really knew how to make a really good Wii game. Even Nintendo’s initial Wii hits, Zelda and Brawl, were practically Cube ports.

That’s why the first Red Steel gets a pass in my books. Even though it wasn’t great, Ubi failed while being ambitious. Now that games like Call of Duty and Metroid have set a standard, I’m willing to give Ubi another crack at this, especially since it involves the MotionPlus.
