Developer CCP is celebrating six years of space travel, combat and politics for their MMO EVE Online. Coupled with that is the announcement of 300,000 subscribers (which according to CCP does not include trial accounts). The subscriber count boasts a 22% increase from the beginning of 2009.
The increase is attributed to the new Apocrypha expansion, and let’s not forget the fact that the MMO has finally reached store shelves in physical retail copies as well. It comes to little surprise that EVE Online is expanding as during the year the record for concurrent users in their single-server world was beaten several times, making the current record 53,850 players all playing at once. Plenty of interesting events have errupted from the MMO, we can only hope that the higher subscriber count can bring more of it!
