A quote from Microsoft’s Don Mattrick a few weeks ago about how Microsoft will “completely transform how people think about home entertainment” at E3 next month has left us optimistically cautious. A quote like that, PR bull or not, is bound to create some excitement and makes one wonder what it is they may have up their sleeves, especially as they’ve been oddly quiet so far this year. Now Steve Ballmer, who knows how to get noticed, has directed our attention to the company’s upcoming Xbox announcements once more. “Pay attention to the stuff we’re announcing in the next month on Xbox,” Ballmer told Dallas News.
Whether he’s referring to the Xbox 360’s rumored full body motion control or something else is unknown, but completely transforming home entertainment doesn’t sound like something that can be done by catering to the hardcore audience alone, so it wouldn’t surprise us if Microsoft started pushing the casual angle a lot more aggressively this year.
Needless to say, we will be paying close attention to their E3 press conference on June 1st and will be there to liveblog the whole thing as it happens. Perhaps we’ll even witness what “breaking the bank” looks like.
