Guitar Hero 5 brings new modes, first songs revealed
BY Jeremy Hill May. 15th, 2009 More on:

Guitar Hero 5 is at the forefront of Activision’s quest to smother us all with music rhythm games this year. Today the first official details about the game and the first playable songs were revealed. One of the most important things we learned is that Guitar Hero 5 will be fully compatible with downloaded songs from Guitar Hero World Tour. The songs will be updated automatically once you pop Guitar Hero 5 into the disc drive. Also new to the series is the ability for players to use whatever instrument they want regardless of whether someone else has already chosen it. It’s possible for four people to play the drums, although any combination of instruments is possible. We’ll also be able to activate Band Moments by playing certain notes in unison and song challenges can be completed by playing through a song in a specific way.

The two new gameplay features of the game are called Party Play and RockFest. Party Play lets anyone drop in and out of the game at will, and RockFest is a competitive mode that offers five head to head modes either online or offline. The entire playlist made up of more than 115 different artists will be available to play in RockFest from the start. Here are the first confirmed songs that will be included in Guitar Hero 5 and the first screens.

The Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the Devil
Bob Dylan – All Along The Watchtower
The White Stripes – Blue Orchid
Santana – No One To Depend On (LIVE)
Vampire Weekend – A-Punk
Tom Petty - Runnin Down a Dream
Johnny Cash – Ring of Fire
Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire

Guitar Hero 5 will be released this Fall for PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

Why the Bob Dylan version of Watchtower…. even Dylan concedes that Hendrix made that song better…

My friend - This is what happens when you start milking from a series. The same logic has even happened with Sonic the Hedgehog.

They have essentially used up pretty much every song they can find in the past god knows how many games in this cash cow fiasco.

They may have updated on some key features which SHOULD have been added in world tour, but overall - this seems like an alright game, despite it now becoming a somewhat overly hyped game with a huge amount of artists thrown into the mix.

It’s just going to suck they only have like three good bands that are going to be in the Johnny Cash Gorillaz and Queen the rest are just going to suck the highlight of guitar hero was reached in the third game now they are making the games with songs no one likes and people are going to keep on buying the games and getting pissed at what a waste of money the game was in all honesty they should have done a Guitar hero Dragon force instead of making a guitar hero 5 that would have kept people busy for like two years to try and play all the songs on expert heck rockband is starting to take guitar heros place. Guitar hero will soon be a horrible nightmare of the past the band sets will collect dust as more people start to play rockband and no i am not a rockband fan i Have only played it once and I liked it better than all the time i have played guitar hero 4 and guitar hero 3 the songs i have seen on guitar hero 5 have basically taken the games title and shot it in the head
