Capcom rumor round-up
BY Denis Evangelista May. 24th, 2009 More on:

While the swine flu has prevented Capcom from showing off Dead Rising 2 at E3, their PR department seems to have been stricken with the loose tongue flu judging from the amount of teasing they have done in the past week or so, especially on their Capcom-Unity Twitter account. After confirming that the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom localization was the first “secret” game that they would show at E3, speculation ran wild as to what the other will be. Capcom happily played along and confirmed that it would not be Devil May Cry 5, but also went on to say that it is going to be an action game, a known IP that Capcom fans have been clamoring for, and developed internally by Capcom Japan. So this would leave us with a new Onimusha, right? Or perhaps another retro revival in the vein of Bionic Commando, like a new Strider?  Let the speculation continue.

In the meantime, Capcom CFO Kazuhiko Abe revealed that part of Capcom’s business model has been to release games for the HD consoles first, then weigh whether or not to do a Wii port, kind of like what they did with Dead Rising (but hopefully not exactly like that). He specifically cited that they “have not decided” on whether to port the highly successful Resident Evil 5 to the Wii.

He just had to say this right after I accepted that RE5 would never see a Wii release. Thanks for getting my hopes back up Mr. Abe, please don’t crush them again.
