Crysis 2 announced, going multiplatform

And so it begins.

Crysis 2 is coming, and not just on PC. After showing CryENGINE 3 running for consoles back at GDC, developer Crytek has now confirmed the sequal to the gorgeous 2007 shooter will be hitting both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well as PC. Crytek CEO Cevat Yeril was excited by the fact that this will be both the developers first console game and first CryENGINE 3 game saying, “The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio.”

Of course publisher EA are also pretty happy about the announcement. After all, more platforms means more money. “Nothing speaks more of the success of the EA Partners program than when a studio the calibre of Crytek continues to work with us.” David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners said.

Crysis 2 will still be a long way off, but now that the studio has Free Radical under their belt too, there’s probably more than this sequal in the works right now.

If we’re lucky, perhaps EA will send out some screens (image above is from Crysis Warhead) from the game after their press conference today, which will happen in ~10 hours.
