E3 2009 / Baby seal heads as hats in Overlord II is cool with PETA |

If you’ve been enjoying the just-released demo for Overlord II (if you haven’t there’s something wrong with your face), specifically the evil act of massacring all those adorable baby seals and having your minions wear their heads as hats, then your future as a serial killer is A-OK. Even PETA thinks so!
While getting some hands-on time with the game at E3, Codemasters’ Sam Cordier said the animal craniums as a fashion statement is fine with PETA since you play an evil character doing evil things. Let’s not forget this is the same group that wanted tuna to be known as “sea kittens,” so chalk it up as a win for videogames! Now, I wonder how they’ll feel about the baby pandas…

Sea kittens?? Man, I’ve seen tuna before and there’s no way they’re as cute as kittens. In fact, they look like a kitten that’s been dunked in toxic waste, like that Emil guy at the end of Robocop.

I played the demo and I have to say clubbering those little buggers just felt wrong.
Oh and the controls suck just like in the first game. Damn shame cause I think would like the game otherwise.

All the hatred aimed at PETA is what gets me.. seriously, its just sheer deflection.. “PETA are so crazy that i don’t need to hear ANY of their points, rather just dismiss them (and their occasionally valid points) with a clear conscience”
Talk about shooting the messenger.

After playing the demo it felt like the first Overlord to me. The only thing that was new was the ability for your minions to ride on wolves. And like Ricoch said, the controls haven’t really improved. Locking on to an enemy and getting your minions to attack is kinda hit or miss. And I hate having to swoop my minions over the same pile of items over and over again hoping they’ll pick them up.

Is there an official statement on this, or just what Sam Cordier told you at E3?

I really don’t see PETA going along with this - and it’s the reason I won’t buy the game.
