Infinity Ward explains Modern Warfare name change |

It seems weird that Infinity Ward would sacrifice the namesake they made famous for the upcoming Modern Warfare 2, omitting the Call of Duty tag in any capacity. Most gamers have probably already accepted the name change anyhow, but MTV Multiplayer got in a quick interview with Robert Bowling, community manager over at Infinity Ward. As he explains it, the reason for the name change is because, “this is just not another one in the Call of Duty franchise. This is a direct sequel to Modern Warfare. This has never happened in Call of Duty before. They’re typically all their own campaigns, totally unrelated to the previous one.”
So there you have it, the first ever direct continuation of a Call of Duty narrative, which makes me psyched because Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had, in my opinion, the only compelling and memorable story of any Call of Duty. I’m damned excited to see the continuing operations of the SAS.

I’d be very surprised if they didn’t sneak a ’sequel to the best-selling, award-winning, ass-kicking Call Of Duty 4′ label somewhere on the box, despite the omission in the title. The marketing branch really wouldn’t be doing its job right if there was no mention.

they couldnt realy have “Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 2″ so looking at it like that, it adds up to just use Modern Warfare 2.
As Chris says, got to be a mention.

I like the new title but…
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would have sold a wee bit more no?
