Perfect Dark looks near-perfect
BY Jason Townsend-Rogers Jun. 6th, 2009 More on:

In owning a Nintendo 64 during my formative years, I subscribed to the age-old philosophy of “less is more.” While I did not own as many games for that system as was the case for my original PlayStation, the games that I did own (Super Mario 64, Kirby 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie), I made sure to obtain the maximum amount of enjoyment that I could get from them.

Although I did not have the opportunity to own it, I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to rent Perfect Dark. When I played its newest iteration on the 360, I had fun…but felt that something was missing.

Rare’s decision to port their original title to the 360 is a good one; however, maybe “port” is the wrong word. Considering these screenshots and the ones shown by Kotaku, Rare is certainly doing their best to make sure that this title will achieve perfection.

In addition to looks, the game will also include “specific Xbox Live features” along with all the original features included in the game.

Whether Rare succeeds in making this version of Joanna Dark’s adventure perfect again will be up to gamers. They will have the chance to judge when it becomes available winter of this year.

So excited for this. I played way too much Perfect Dark local multiplayer back in the day. Controllers were thrown, friendships were broken, an unimaginable number of bots were killed.

I really hope this “specific Xbox Live features” thing delivers though. I don’t know if I’d pay for ‘just’ a straight up port of the game.

my life panned out the same as you Matt, 4 way frag fest, run for the laptop gun and stick it in the most annoying and safe place on the map. The room with many small pillars was always my fav to use it in, from a map taken from golden eye… i forget the name.

if memory serves it seemed to be the first game i remember with a fairly large achievement system of its own that was similar to todays..with odds and ends you could aspire to in single player, a good stat system and weapons with many uses and second functions.

the screen we played on was tiny.. i remember if you didn’t get the good spot in the room.. you had trouble seeing your box on one side of the screen.. always alot of in fighting for best arse parking.

      great game..

Being a massive, huge fan of Perfect Dark in my video game golden days, I dreamed of the day that Perfect Dark 2 would come true. Something built upon where Perfect Dark has ended. All the hours I have spent, murdering countless of the hardened Dark Bots to finding the cheese blocks in all the levels in wee hours of the morning, not to mention being a revolutionary FPS game….I want something that epic again. I believe it can happen. Why not just remake and build up the original Perfect Dark to present day standards? More levels, more multiplayer maps, more guns, etc etc? I don’t own a XBOX 360 but I could see it happening if this game was to come to fruition. Just thinking of mowing people down with the Callisto NTG….ohhhh, Perfect Dark 2 FTW! Either way, Perfect Dark was one of the greatest games of all time.
