The disappointing sales of Tomb Raider: Underworld continues to plague San Francisco-based developer Crystal Dynamics, as Kotaku reports that another twenty-five employees from the studio have been made redundant. An Eidos rep confirmed news, saying that the “decision is a reflection of the continued drive to focus resources at the studio.”
Earlier this year, there were reports that Crystal Dynamics had cut thirty jobs due to Underworld’s poor performance on store shelves. Now it appears that this latest bad news might put the future of the game developer in jeopardy.
In addition to their recent work on the Tomb Raider series, Crystal Dynamics is known for having developed games such as Gex and Legacy of Kain series. For those of us with fond memories of PSone gaming, this one hurts.

That’s too bad. The GM’s of the gaming industry are starting to bite the dust, so hopefully they start learning to use some more creativity.

Well if developers can only muster creativity after people lose their jobs, then there’s something wrong. But yes, I also hope struggling studios like this one can turn it around.
