Weren’t we just talking about Free Realms last week? Oh right, that part about it having 2.5 millions players. Yeah, that was…Wait, what? Now it’s at 3 million? It seems to be the case as Sony Online Entertainment has now confirmed that its free-to-play MMO has hit 3 million.
“SOE worked diligently over the past four years to ensure that Free Realms would take the online space by storm,” said John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment. “We are pleased to be able to provide such a vast, in-depth and, most importantly, fun world to an average of 500,000 new gamers per week.” To celebrate the milestone, SOE will hand out the “3M Pet Party Pack,” to the first 3 million players. Apparently it’s filled with things you can use for your virtual pets. That’s a bunch of animals, it’s a good thing animals in Free Realms don’t multiply as fast as real animals do.

The problem with free-to-play MMO metrics is the fact that you can create as many accounts as you want that never expire. Maple Story claims to have like 16 million users, but only a small fraction of that is considered active. 3 million is a good number though. Free Realms is more of a children’s MMO though, wonder how many pedo’s are lurking behind one of those avatars. Now that’s something that will keep you up a night.

Whoa! Free Realms has just passed the 4 million player mark! That is SO cool, and I’m glad that other gamers are enjoying this MMOG as much as I am! To celebrate the milestone, FR will be hosting an in-game bonus from July 2nd- 8th where players will receive double treasure tickets! These can then be used in Sanctuary to get sweets rewards.
