We always hear about digital distribution making huge strides in the market, however we rarely get hard numbers of those sales from sources like NPD. Well, NPD may not have hard numbers now but they do have some estimates based on percentages concerning those who buy digital items often through Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network.

According to the tracker which is known for its retail tracking, 18 percent of Xbox 360’s Gold members regularly download from Xbox Live Arcade, and 10 percent of PlayStation 3 users buy digitally from Sony’s PlayStation Network. Again, these are estimations on users who are categorized to have purchased often on their respective networks. Regardless, they’re pretty good numbers on an aspect of the industry that will undoubtedly grow as more consumers obtain more resources, such as reliable access to the internet.
